One adventure-filled year has passed since RE-Charge Tacloban was launched. A solar powered training center and charging station for electric vehicles in the heart of the city, the facility has seen seemingly strange ideas come to life. It played an important role in the empowerment of those who are survivors of the impacts of climate change, transform from being ordinary citizens into Solar Scholars. The initiative has supported the daily operation of low carbon transportation, the electric jeepneys and the electric multicabs. RE-Charge Tacloban is our home and the home of everyone who believe that building back better involves being environmentally responsible especially in the aspects of energy generation and transportation.
Last October 3, 2015, we celebrated our anniversary with a fun day at the facility. Thanks to our friends from University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban Campus, Eastern Visayas State University, the Civil Disaster Emergency Management Team of Tacloban, families of our staff, volunteers, and our neighbors in Burgos Street for celebrating the day with us!
Photo exhibits, talks on climate and energy, and photovoltaic technology with students, volunteers, and friends from all around Tacloban
Sharing the stories of the beautiful people who appear on our heroes’ wall
Gentlemen from CDEMT exploring the electric vehicle technology
Display of various solar innovations and Agam books
Our handsome kitchen committee composed of volunteers from EVSU, staff and family
One of our youngest volunteers, North, doing his contribution to our ‘under the sea’ wall art
Guests helping our with our wall art, designed by local artist and good friend Victor Villero
The ladies of UP singing their hearts our on the videoke after doing some painting
Fernandez family doing some wall art together
My wish was to slow down a bit from the series of field work we’ve done recently to promote our advocacy and just enjoy the day with art and music, and with these great people.
Thank you to everyone who believe in the dreams of RE-Charge.
We wish to see many more wonderful years, transform more lives, and empower more people to be capable of building back better, brighter.
